Cactus
Garden (El Jardin del Cactus)
Even if you are
not a gardening/plant enthusiast, you will nevertheless find this a
fascinating visit. The garden, built in an old quarry, is situated on the
northern edge of the village of Guatiza, at the north-east of the island,
alongside the LZ-1.
There are cacti of
all shapes, sizes and colours and the variety will surprise you. They are
laid out in a series of beds and terraces and the vibrant greens of the
cacti stand out dramatically from the black volcanic gravel.
There is a good
restaurant, shop and interesting windmill.
There are some
unusual signs denoting the ladies and gents. I won’t spoil the surprise!
Ample parking.
Some pictures are
below but I am not sufficiently expert to name the plants. These are not the
size of cacti you see in greenhouses in the UK. Some are massive!
